The lecture is about the control and estimation of networked control systems i.e. usually a set of decoupled control systems interconnected via communication links. Networked control systems are emerging as a common architecture for autonomous systems, especially in applications where higher levels of decision making are required. Unlike traditional control systems, where communication and computational aspects are often ignored, networked control systems require an integration of techniques from communications and control. The main objective of the lecture is to give the students an overview of the state of the art in a new and promising area and its importance in the design of future distributed control systems. The lecture is suitable for students with basic knowledge in control and interests in communication-based control, consensus algorithms and distributed problem solving through the use of agents.
