This module includes basic knowledge on three classes of finite-state dynamical systems, which include: (1) finite automata (regular languages, regular expressions, the Myhill-Nerode theorem, etc.), control-theoretic properties of discrete-event systems modeled by labeled finite automata (detectability, diagnosability, etc.), (2) control-theoretic properties/problems of Boolean control networks (controllability, observability, disturbance decoupling, etc.), (3) basic knowledge on weighted automata over monoids/semirings. The purpose of the module is to show similarities and differences between these classes of systems.
