Automation technology makes decisive contributions to novel therapeutic successes in medicine, especially with its methodological approaches of system analysis, control, optimization and system synthesis. This lecture describes the restoration of human functional systems (e.g. cardiovascular system, respiratory system, motor system, pancreas, ...) by technical systems. Also covered are higher-level aspects of biomedical systems.
